IFSTTAR - French Institute of Science and Technology for Transport, Development and Networks

IFSTTAR is the result of the merger of LCPC and INRETS on January 2011. It is a French public research institute, under the joint supervision of the Ministry of Energy Environment and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. IFSTTAR tackles four major challenges:

  • Creating sustainable mobility
  • Adapting infrastructure
  • Minimizing natural hazards and our environmental impacts
  • Imagining and planning cities and regions

Its work sets out to direct public policies and supports economic activity through the development of innovations. In order to be able to cope with the changing needs of society, IFSTTAR analyses changing behaviours and develops new technologies. This work generates innovative solutions and decision-making tools in strategic sectors such as transport and infrastructure, urban and spatial planning, the management of energy and resources, drainage, safety, health, information technologies and communication.

Within the U-THREAT project, IFSTTAR brings its expertise on user-related issues regarding incidents scenarios for underground transportation, with a focus on the definition of communication means and contents according to scenarios, phases and users specificities.
